Happy New Year is on the Way

A New Year is around the corner and 2012 is almost past. However fast or slow this year has gone, a whole new, fresh start is about to take place.

Make plans to bring in the New Year on Navarre Beach. Watch the moon rise over the Gulf waters and reminisce, or plan for the future. Navarre Beach awaits you.

And to bring in the New Year - participate in Navarre Beach's Penguin Plunge and Paddle. The Penguin Plunge and Paddle is hosted by Juana's Pagoda each year. At noon, participants will make a mad dash into the Sound waters and make an equally quick dash out - depending on the coolness of the water.  Also, they host a Paddle Board competition.

For those less bold souls, you can still register to enjoy the festivities without having to face the elements. Registration allows you to enjoy the free fun, warm drinks - like hot cocoa - and receive a participant T-shirt. All money earned will be donated to Fisher House of the Emerald Coast.

Wishing you and yours a Happy and Blessed New Years!

We Wish You a Merry Christmas

Here is Navarre Beach Florida, the weather is mild and people are preparing for the Christmas Holiday next Tuesday.

Christmas trees, lights, images of St. Nick and Nativity Scenes are visible all over town.  Here is some trivia about Christmas that you may not have known....

  • St. Nick was a Turkish Monk who would be benevolent towards those with less and show kindness to children by giving them gifts.

  • The Christmas tree didn't become popular in America or England until Queen Victoria married Prince Albert - he being of German heritage had the tradition of a Christmas tree therefore making it popular in England and eventually it was popular in the States.

  • In Spanish or South American countries, they celebrate Christmas and Epiphany with a visit from the Three Wise Men who bring goodies and place it in children's shoes just as they brought gifts for the Christ child.

So just a few fun facts to wish you a Merry Christmas.

It's Christmas time in Navarre

City sidewalks, busy sidewalks dressed in holiday style, it's Christmas time in Navarre.

December 1, 2012, Saturday, come one come all to Navarre's Chamber of Commerce for the Jingle Bell Fest taking place all afternoon.

From 1 to 6 p.m. the Chamber will host the Jingle Marketplace where locals can come and browse for stocking stuffers. Also, from 3 to 6 p.m., get the photo you will need for your Christmas cards by having your picture taken with Mr. and Mrs. Claus.

At 2:30 p.m. plan for Navarre's Annual Christmas parade that will begin by McDonald's and will weave and wind its way through neighborhood streets until it reaches the American Legion Hall.

Then in Navarre Park at 6 p.m. the annual lighting of the tree will commence.

It is a time to come and participate in the community and see neighbors. For visitors in Navarre, enjoy a taste of Christmas along the Gulf.

Some come out and enjoy -  Children laughing, people passing, meeting smile after smile... It's Christmastime in Navarre.

Happy Thanksgiving!!!

Wishing you and yours a Happy Thanksgiving…

As Thanksgiving is a day set aside by our Founding Fathers, here is the proclamation given by our First President to the nation regarding the establishment of our national holiday.

From our First President of the United States – George Washington, from his Thanksgiving Proclamation:

“Now therefore I do recommend and assign Thursday the 26th day of November next to be devoted by the People of these States to the service of that great and glorious Being, who is the beneficent Author of all the good that was, that is, or that will be-- That we may then all unite in rendering unto him our sincere and humble thanks--for his kind care and protection of the People of this Country previous to their becoming a Nation--for the signal and manifold mercies, and the favorable interposition of his Providence which we experienced in the course and conclusion of the late war--for the great degree of tranquility, union, and plenty, which we have since enjoyed--for the peaceable and rational manner, in which we have been enabled to establish constitutions of government for our safety and happiness, and particularly the national One now lately instituted--for the civil and religious liberty with which we are blessed; and the means we have of acquiring and diffusing useful knowledge; and in general for all the great and various favors which he hath been pleased to confer upon us.

And also that we may then unite in most humbly offering our prayers and supplications to the great Lord and Ruler of Nations and beseech him to pardon our national and other transgressions-- to enable us all, whether in public or private stations, to perform our several and relative duties properly and punctually--to render our national government a blessing to all the people, by constantly being a Government of wise, just, and constitutional laws, discreetly and faithfully executed and obeyed--to protect and guide all Sovereigns and Nations (especially such as have shown kindness unto us) and to bless them with good government, peace, and concord--To promote the knowledge and practice of true religion and virtue, and the increase of science among them and us--and generally to grant unto all Mankind such a degree of temporal prosperity as he alone knows to be best.

Given under my hand at the City of New York the third day of October in the year of our Lord 1789.”

November Holiday Plans ~

November is here and so are two National holidays: Veterans Day and Thanksgiving.

Initially, known after World War One as Armistice Day – when on the 11th month, on the 11th day at the 11th hour the treaty ending World War One was signed. As the U.S.  has faced more wars since then, our nation has chosen to honor all our service members with a day giving them our sincere tribute.

Thank you to those men and women and your families who faithfully have served our country. Your sacrifice and service are valued and revered.

Thanksgiving – a time set aside by our U.S. Congress and first President to Thank God for His providence and protection.

“By the President of the United States of America, a Proclamation.
Whereas it is the duty of all Nations to acknowledge the providence of Almighty God, to obey his will, to be grateful for his benefits, and humbly to implore his protection and favor-- and whereas both Houses of Congress have by their joint Committee requested me to recommend to the People of the United States a day of public thanksgiving and prayer to be observed by acknowledging with grateful hearts the many signal favors of Almighty God especially by affording them an opportunity peaceably to establish a form of government for their safety and happiness…”
- said by George Washington in New York, Oct. 3, 1789

As these are times Americans prefer to spend time with loved ones, let Navarre Vacation Rentals recommend making your family holiday memories at Navarre Beach.

Sandsculpting is Back!

Remember the first time you played in the sand? The creativity that flowed when you discovered what sandcastles were, the feeling of playing and molding with these miniscule grains of rock and water to create a fortress or any other thing you could devise? Navarre's  3rd annual Sand Sculpting Festival is back and so are the impressive artists.

Make plans to come out and see the mastery and skill of 9 pro sand sculptors - several known from Sand Wars. Rusty Croft, Travel Channel's host for Sand Masters, will also be participating - this will be his third event here at Navarre Beach.

This festival is free to the public and will be positioned by the Navarre Beach Pier, starting Sept. 28 and running through Sept 30 when the winners will be announced.

Sailing with Juana's Good Times Regatta

This weekend will be the 22nd annual Good Times Regatta hosted by Juana's Pagoda on Navarre Beach. Calling sailors and their multihull sailboats whether amateurs or experts to come out and join the fun.

Every time I see sailing taking place I pleasantly recall a scene from the movie with Jimmy Stewart "Mr. Hobbs Takes a Vacation." When Mr. Hobbs played by Stewart takes his son out sailing to watch and solar eclipse and end up enveloped in fog. It turns out to be a humorous scene of parenting and human nature, and as in any good comedy it ends well.

But for sailing enthusiasts, this weekend gives you the opportunity to be your own Mr. Hobbs minus the fog. The Regatta is being held Sept. 7-9 in the Navarre Sound. If you plan on particiapating register through Juana's soon. No one will be able to register after Friday, Sept. 7.

London 2012 - Florida Athletes on Team USA

The 2012 Summer Games have kept America's attention from the opening ceremony. If it wasn't the Queen of England doing a spoof with James Bond, then it as been empathizing with the disappointments and rejoicing with the victories of our Team USA.

However, two of Team USA are from the sunny state of Florida - can you guess who they are?

Justin Gatlin - who will be competing in track events is a Pensacola native who has made it back to the Olympics. We can't wait to see him run and show his speed.

Another Floridian on the team is swimmer Ryan Lochte - a Florida Gator during his college career, has already won a gold on the first day out and continues to impress with his speed and endurance.

From across the pond, we are cheering them on - they make us proud representing Florida.

Go Team USA!
