November is here and so are two National holidays: Veterans
Day and Thanksgiving.
Initially, known after World War One as Armistice Day – when
on the 11th month, on the 11th day at the 11th
hour the treaty ending World War One was signed. As the U.S. has faced more wars since then, our nation has
chosen to honor all our service members with a day giving them our sincere
tribute.
Thank you to those men and women and your families who
faithfully have served our country. Your sacrifice and service are valued and revered.
Thanksgiving – a time set aside by our U.S. Congress and
first President to Thank God for His providence and protection.
Whereas it is the duty of all Nations to acknowledge the providence of Almighty God, to obey his will, to be grateful for his benefits, and humbly to implore his protection and favor-- and whereas both Houses of Congress have by their joint Committee requested me to recommend to the People of the United States a day of public thanksgiving and prayer to be observed by acknowledging with grateful hearts the many signal favors of Almighty God especially by affording them an opportunity peaceably to establish a form of government for their safety and happiness…”
