February on the Gulf Coast

Are you ready? February is almost here. And there is much to do and to be done.

To start off the month for all you athletically minded individuals, there is the Pensacola Double Bridge Run. (Time is running out to register.) The Run will take place Feb 2; the 15K will begin at 7 am and the 5k run walk will begin at 8:30am.

For all the snowbirds, the Navarre Beach Chamber will be hosting their annual Snowbird Open House. All snowbirds are asked to RSVP. This event provides opportunities for the Snowbirds to see what the local community has to offer as well as the opportunity to win door prizes.

Everyone remembers February for Valentine's Day - yes, it is 2 weeks away. How will you spend it with your sweetheart?  Navarre Beach has the perfect prices and accommodations for a romantic weekend away.

To finish the month off prepare for the River Walk Arts Festival located in the historic river town of Milton. Locals and artisans will show off their latest goods and creations.

Double Bridge Run 15 K and 5K

Many of us make New Years resolutions to do better at exercising, and it helps to have a goal. The Double Bridge Run could be just that goal to keep you motivated.

This annual 15K run and 5 K Run and Walk take the participants from Palafox Pier to Pensacola Beach. But to be a part of this event, make sure to register online at www.doublebridgerun.com or at the very latest the Pensacola Beach Hilton by Feb. 1.

The Price for Registering will increase starting Jan. 26.  The Run will provide shuttle service, aid stations for runners, and Monetary Awards to the 3 overall finishers.

 

November Holiday Plans ~

November is here and so are two National holidays: Veterans Day and Thanksgiving.

Initially, known after World War One as Armistice Day – when on the 11^th month, on the 11^th day at the 11^th hour the treaty ending World War One was signed. As the U.S.  has faced more wars since then, our nation has chosen to honor all our service members with a day giving them our sincere tribute.

Up in the Sky... No it's not Superman. It's the Blue Angels!

There are many awe inspiring sights to be found along Florida's Gulf Coast. However, this weekend is one of the most popular with a performance of the Navy's Ace Flying team - the Blue Angels.

These six jets, F-18s, soar and cut through the air with breathtaking precision. Their aerodynamic maneuvers impress young and old alike.

The show will start around noon time, but as this is a popular event for locals and vacationing guests plan accordingly.

The best way to enjoy the air show over Pensacola Beach is by traveling by boat along the Sound. This way you can get in and get out without too much of a traffic jam. However, if you come by car, make sure to make a day of it because you will need to arrive early to get a parking space, and once the show is over it will take hours for the mass exodus of cars to vacate the island. So, pack a lunch and some good listening music.

It is a memorable event to watch the Blue Angels soar up and down vertically and horizontally and any other angle they can muster, but no matter the inconvenience of parking or crowds the show is worth it. But, don't take my word for it, check the Blue Angels out for yourself.
