To Dad:

Father: Friend, Advice-giver, Teacher, Helper, Encourager, Realist

Dad, He is the man who held the firm line of discipline in love and whose opinion matters most. He is the provider and protector of the household, and yet took time to teach us to play catch or lead us on excursions of the imagination by reading us to sleep in childhood.

And though there are times we may not always see eye to eye, we knew there was love wanting our best interest at heart. He has taught us by example in how to treat people, to take a stand for convictions, and to befriend those in need. To achieve his approval is the most encouragement you ever need.  And no matter how old one may grow, he is Father.

“Dad, your guiding hand on my shoulder will remain with me forever.”  - Author Unknown

Let us Remember

Memorial Day – currently known for another holiday weekend, for cookouts and for kicking off the summer season. But it holds a much more valuable significance.

Memorial Day was once called Decoration Day- simply a day to remember the fallen in service from the U.S. Civil War. General John Logan who was national commander of the Grand Army of the Republic proclaimed it May 5, 1868, and officially observed it May 30, 1868 when flowers were then dispersed upon the graves of Union and Confederate soldiers at Arlington. It was a sobering day to remember the tragedy of what our nation had been through and to keep in mind so as to not endure such a conflict again – the dividing of a nation. After World War One the day became more than just a day to focus on those who died in the Civil War but a day to tribute all fallen servicemen.

In 1915 Moina Michael developed the idea of wearing red poppies on Memorial Day in tribute to those who died serving the nation during the various wars.

Today we as a nation have seen many more battles and wars. Many more have found their resting places while serving as was their duty. It is to those faithful fallen souls that we stop to reflect, appreciate and never forget the honor due them for their service.

To Mother:

“Some are kissing mothers and some are scolding mothers but it is love just the same, and most mothers kiss and scold together.” Pearl S. Buck

We are thankful for the women in our lives who make a world of difference. Mother is our first teacher, teaching us how to face the world around us. Mother is the one who nurtures us when we are young, teaches us right from wrong, and guides us to be people of nobility with her sacrificial life.
“All I am or hope to be, I owe to my angel mother,” Abraham Lincoln once said about his step-mother who had come into his life as young boy. She taught him to read as he didn’t have the opportunity to always attend school as he helped his father manage their farm. But he went on to be a soldier, a lawyer, a man with convictions running for office. He faced failure but was persistent. He became the leader of the US during a tumultuous time known as the Civil War.  And he made a lasting legacy not just because he became a President, but because his life is a tribute to the woman who encouraged him to be a noble man.

“The mother loves her child most divinely not when she surrounds him with comfort and anticipates his wants, but when she resolutely holds him to the highest standards and is content with nothing less than his best,” Hamilton Wright Mabie once wrote.

This Mother’s Day – amid the hustle and bustles of cards, flowers and brunch, remember all the efforts that go unsung for the woman who loves tirelessly. Happy Mother’s Day.

Happy Easter!

To our readers and beach goer family - it is looking to be a busy weekend for us here on Navarre Beach. Spring Break and Easter are here.

The weather surprisingly has been cooler this week - much to the chagrin of the Spring Breakers that are here. But at Navarre Vacation Rentals our realm of control regarding weather is somewhat limited. At least the days have been beautiful although cooler.

I have spotted a few bold souls to sit in the pool (not heated) in their swimsuits when the air temp is barely 60 degrees - Who knows how warm the water felt like. They are the ones determined to experience the joys of sunbathing even if the weather doesn't cooperate, the die hard vacationers.

According to the weather man, the temperatures should improve to some warmer weather for Easter.

Here are some local churches for attending services this Sunday:

  • First Baptist of Navarre : 9302 Navarre Parkway
  • Navarre United Methodist: 9474 Navarre Parkway
  • Navarre First Assembly: 9594 Navarre Parkway
  • St. Augustine's Episcopal: 7810 Navarre Parkway
  • Our Lady of Assumption: 920 Via de Luna Dr. Pensacola Beach

Wishing you a Happy Easter.
